Trifecta! | Fairfield, Connecticut Newborn Photographer

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Baby Quinlan, my first newborn photography trifecta in a LONG time! What does it take to have a newborn photography trifecta? Well, I will tell if you promise not to hate or be jealous (that’s you fellow newborn photographers). Promise? Okay, sweet Baby Quinlan did not poop, pee or wake up for our entire session. A rare and appreciated event!

Quinlan wouldn’t have needed to have done anything to be especially memorable. I shot his session on the day of the Bridgeport tornado. I don’t think I’ll ever forget how quickly I was changing my iso and shutters as the storm approached. I also won’t forget the trifecta, or just how sweet and patient Quinlan was during our session.

I was going to announce the end of casting calls at the end of summer. But, these sessions are so much fun. I love trying new things and playing around with the old things too. Back in 2004 when I was first starting out as an official professional photographer I often used a black backdrop. I decided to break it out for Quinlan. I love how these images came out and how the focus is all on Quinlan and his cuteness. Look at those lips, and those fingers, isn’t he the sweetest thing? I’m definitely going to keep the black backdrop in rotation but only for newborns.

Sweet Baby Charlie | Westport Connecticut Newborn Photographer

Friday, June 4th, 2010

When I first heard from Charlie’s mom I was so excited to meet her and photograph little Charlie. She was referred to me by someone that is infinitely cool so I knew I was in for a treat. Not only was mom cooler than I had hoped, but she just so happened to greet me with the most glorious light streaming in from her dining room. Double bonus!

Charlie had a bit of tummy trouble that day. He was such a good sport through our three hour shoot. You can see just how sweet he is here. I love this shot because his lips are slightly curved up showing a hint of a smile. It shows just how strong Charlie is to be so peaceful and so happy with an upset tummy. Speaking of strong I wish you could have been a fly on the wall to see this boy’s head control! I couldn’t believe my eyes!

I also love this shot because it just so happens to be on this incredible faux fur rug that I am forever indebted to photographer-friend Suzzane Brown for helping me locate. Thanks again Suzy!!

Late in April when things were starting to warm up here in Connecticut I flew out to sunny San Diego to attend Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall’s Baby as Art Workshop. Carrie and Britt are well known and respected in the photographer world. So, attending their workshop was an honor and pleasure. Especially since I’ve been following their work since waaaay back in 2004. The Baby as Art Workshop was everything I dreamed it would be. Now, that I’m back I’m filled with new ideas and inspiration and am very excited to be shoot new babies.

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

The shot of this adorable little guy peeking over the edge of his crib is a perfect photograph to use for my peek at Holiday Deadlines and Hours post. At 7 months he is at one of my favorite ages to photograph. So, I was already looking forward to this shoot. When I walked I was so happy to see this beautiful, happy, bright-eyed boy. A photographer’s dream!

Before I get into the deadlines, I have to say this was such a fun session. It’s filled with images that I love! When I spoke with Charlie’s mom, she was so down to earth, really cool, and had no expectations for the shoot. That’s always when I get my favorite images. Not only is this a shot of baby Charlie peeking over the top of his crib that I’m using as a peek at my holiday hours and deadlines but it’s also a sneak peek for Charlie’s family. A triple peek! The Angel Sings

In the Garden

If I had to sum up this session in one word, it would be angelic. The two pictures I’m sharing from this session are the inspiration for the word. In the first photograph, the oldest sister was singing softly in her new, little sister’s ear. As I watched her sing through my camera’s lens she looked up at me for a brief moment and I instantly hit the shutter creating this portrait. I knew the moment the shutter clicked I would adore this image.

In the next photograph I was out in the garden with the two oldest daughters in the family. The lighting out there was spectacular, I love every every photograph taken out in the garden. This one spoke to me, because of the way the light is hitting sweet A’s eyes, the way her soft baby curls are framing her face and the rich tones in this image. She’s looking off in the distance, looking just like a little angel.

So, now you’re wondering why I titled the post as I have. Well, this session ran through lunch. Not that I noticed! I had the best time with this family and completely forgot all about the time. Well, the amazing Mom who is still recuperating from her delivery offers me a turkey burger. That was the excuse I needed to hang out and stay longer. R, instantly you felt like a friend. Thank you for such an amazing day! And thank you for keeping me from being a starving artist! I can’t wait for you to see the rest of the photographs from your session!

Four People That Will Never Cut You Off | Fairfield CT Photographer

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

A question I am often asked, is how did you get that pose? Today, I am going to answer it for the world. (…maybe the whole world doesn’t read this blog). My secret is… I don’t do anything. I’m a very lucky person that just so happens to get the cutest, smartest and finest clients in all the land. These four kids were nothing short of amazing. They came up with all the ideas for the shots.  Yes, they even perfectly placed themselves on the swingset.  I was just there hanging out and having fun.

I could write pages about them.  I really loved the photographing these kids.  I left feeling like I was able to capture their inner and outer beauty, sincerity, honesty and funnity. (Alright, funnity is not a word. I made it up to go with the other words since they all end in “y”.) Leaving was hard. I wanted to shoot all day long. So I invited myself over for a barbecue. They thought I was kidding.

In a previous post, I mentioned is the summer of the entrepreneur. The mother of these fantastic kids is the CEO and founder of Creative Concepts. Creative Concepts, is a social media firm that merges internet technology with traditional public relations and marketing. (See, I’m not kidding when I say my clients are cool and smart.)

So check out this amazing group of kids. You’ll see them again as they’ll be famous for something awesome soon. Their interests are diverse, from sports, to music to politics.  So be sure to read the whole paper when you look for them.  I can’t wait to open it up and see them there. One place you won’t be seeing them?  Cutting you in line, or cutting you off on the roads (when they all can drive of course!). That’s how amazing these kids are.

The Boy, The Hat, The Wagon and The Dog | Easton Child Photographer

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

When I talk with a client or potential client I like to discuss their goals for the session. Is it getting the twins in the same frame? Or maybe capturing that serious look on your son’s face when he’s thinking really hard? Maybe it’s just capturing the moment. In this case, Mom’s goal was to capture her handsome son, with her super cool dog, while her son was wearing a baseball cap and with a wagon. We took a lot of different variations, and the photo above was one of my favorites. Just check out Little Man’s face. Love it!

One of my favorite things to do is to capture the moment. That’s what you see in the photograph above. Little Man was just hanging out in the wagon in this spectacular light. When he placed his hands on the edge of the wagon he melted my heart. But first, I snapped the shutter. This is another one of my favorite images from our session.

I almost titled this post Summer of the Entrepreneur. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some really awesome women business owners. I love working with fellow female entrepreneurs. In this case, this little guy’s Mom is the owner of WIL Pilates. If you visit her site you can download a FREE 20 minute Pilates video in the workout and tips section. Pretty cool, huh?

Connecticut Photographer Blogging Irregularly Since 2005

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I owe this fantastic family a blog post!  I love all my clients, and this family is definitely no exception.  When they schedule a session I really look forward to our day.  Photographing this family is so much fun, it’s not even like working.

This shot was taken in “the jungle”.  It’s a special spot in Grandma and Grandpa’s house that brings out the beast in kids.  These little lions took a quick break from jungle life and I snapped this shot in the few seconds they were kids again.  Capturing this sweet interaction between them was a treat!

When preparing this blog post, I realized just how irregularly I update my blog.  Then I was curious to see how irregularly I blog.  So, I looked back and realized I’ve been blogging since 2005.  How many other Connecticut photographers have been bringing you this kind of sporadic action for that long?

Silliness aside, I’m very excited about some changes that are coming to Hadley Spagna Photography.  I’ll be making an announcement soon.  So stay tuned, you never know when I may blog again!

***Please Note**** I have had some issues receiving emails in the beginning of this year.  The issue seems to be resolved.  If you’ve contacted me and you haven’t heard back yet it’s NOT because I stopped talking to you.  Write back or call and I’ll get back to you.

Funky Monkeys’ Domino House - Connecticut Kids Photographer Hadley Spagna

Monday, November 24th, 2008

The moment I stepped foot into Melissa’s house I knew this session was going to be filled with awesome images.  You can’t have a house that cool and not have some killer images.  Melissa mentioned that a friend had dubbed her house, the Domino House.  Her house couldn’t be more aptly named. She gave me some great advice while I was admiring her incredible interior design work.  She said it so eloquently, and now I’m going to butcher it, but here it goes, if you fill your house with things you love the decorating will fall into place. (Sounds so easy, she’s being way too humble!)

Talk about filling your house with love, look at this Love here!  Isn’t little L the cutest and sweetest thing?  She just celebrated her second birthday.  L gave me a hug and sat on my lap within minutes of my arrival. Talk about winning your photographer’s heart! I had so much fun documenting this morning in her life. Hanging out with her cool mom was fun too, especially when the conversation turned to cats.  (M, wink! I still owe you that artwork piece!)

With the way I’ve described Melissa’s decorating style you’d think that she’s a professional decorator.    Nope, Melissa is the owner of the children’s consignment store Funky Monkeys in Fairfield.

Funky Monkeys is located at 173 Post Road in Fairfield, CT and can be reached by phone at (203) 255-7927.

They had to kick me out

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Okay, that’s an exaggeration.  It was more of a nudge than a kick.   Seriously, if this family wasn’t so warm, welcoming and nice they would have kicked me out!  I could have easily stayed all afternoon.  As you can see the kids are so photogenic even their sweet personalities came through in the photographs.  Getting to know these two beautiful children and their parents was a treat.  It’s kids and families like this that made me come back from hiatus.  Hey K family, don’t be surprised if I stop by for some more Milano cookies and coffee soon!
