Connecticut Photographer Blogging Irregularly Since 2005

March 3rd, 2009

I owe this fantastic family a blog post!  I love all my clients, and this family is definitely no exception.  When they schedule a session I really look forward to our day.  Photographing this family is so much fun, it’s not even like working.

This shot was taken in “the jungle”.  It’s a special spot in Grandma and Grandpa’s house that brings out the beast in kids.  These little lions took a quick break from jungle life and I snapped this shot in the few seconds they were kids again.  Capturing this sweet interaction between them was a treat!

When preparing this blog post, I realized just how irregularly I update my blog.  Then I was curious to see how irregularly I blog.  So, I looked back and realized I’ve been blogging since 2005.  How many other Connecticut photographers have been bringing you this kind of sporadic action for that long?

Silliness aside, I’m very excited about some changes that are coming to Hadley Spagna Photography.  I’ll be making an announcement soon.  So stay tuned, you never know when I may blog again!

***Please Note**** I have had some issues receiving emails in the beginning of this year.  The issue seems to be resolved.  If you’ve contacted me and you haven’t heard back yet it’s NOT because I stopped talking to you.  Write back or call and I’ll get back to you.

The Three Month Old That Woke Up Two Hours Early - Children’s Photographer Hadley Spagna

December 4th, 2008

Little R woke up 2 hours early on our session day. I have to say that I was a little worried for a moment when I saw his eyelids get heavier, and heavier.. and heavier as the morning progressed. His Mom, knowing him so well, said, “Oh, he’ll perk right up after his bottle.” Perk up? I got a little more worried remembering the sleepy trance-like state my kids experienced with a belly full of milk. Sure enough this little guy perked right up after his bottle. He gave me so many wonderful expressions too. All that worry for nothing.

Here you go B & C, here’s your sweet, handsome boy!!

Funky Monkeys’ Domino House - Connecticut Kids Photographer Hadley Spagna

November 24th, 2008

The moment I stepped foot into Melissa’s house I knew this session was going to be filled with awesome images.  You can’t have a house that cool and not have some killer images.  Melissa mentioned that a friend had dubbed her house, the Domino House.  Her house couldn’t be more aptly named. She gave me some great advice while I was admiring her incredible interior design work.  She said it so eloquently, and now I’m going to butcher it, but here it goes, if you fill your house with things you love the decorating will fall into place. (Sounds so easy, she’s being way too humble!)

Talk about filling your house with love, look at this Love here!  Isn’t little L the cutest and sweetest thing?  She just celebrated her second birthday.  L gave me a hug and sat on my lap within minutes of my arrival. Talk about winning your photographer’s heart! I had so much fun documenting this morning in her life. Hanging out with her cool mom was fun too, especially when the conversation turned to cats.  (M, wink! I still owe you that artwork piece!)

With the way I’ve described Melissa’s decorating style you’d think that she’s a professional decorator.    Nope, Melissa is the owner of the children’s consignment store Funky Monkeys in Fairfield.

They had to kick me out

November 10th, 2008

Okay, that’s an exaggeration.  It was more of a nudge than a kick.   Seriously, if this family wasn’t so warm, welcoming and nice they would have kicked me out!  I could have easily stayed all afternoon.  As you can see the kids are so photogenic even their sweet personalities came through in the photographs.  Getting to know these two beautiful children and their parents was a treat.  It’s kids and families like this that made me come back from hiatus.  Hey K family, don’t be surprised if I stop by for some more Milano cookies and coffee soon!

Sneak Preview for Baby E’s Family

October 5th, 2008

Here’s a sneak preview for Sweet Baby E’s family. I knew it was going to be a great session when I walked in and there just so happened to be a 4 foot tall piece of white styrofoam in the formal living room. I loved every shot and every minute of this session. Baby E was a photographer’s dream, beautiful, sleepy and patient with her photographer.

sit. stay. BARK!

September 25th, 2008

Erin Vey leaves me wishing that my most compelling story about Bogart was not about eating my intimates. Bark!, the blog written by friend and fellow photographer Erin, has announced a new contest. She’s offering a complimentary photography session, session album and custom mounted enlargement to the winner. I know, she’s in Seattle, right? That’s so far to travel with Fido! Well, Erin is willing to travel anywhere in the United States to photograph the winner. Are you dogless? You can nominate someone too. Check out the contest details and her stunning work on the Bark! contest page.

Sunsets on Summer

September 6th, 2008

As the sun set on Labor Day, I started to morn the end of summer. Soon flip flops will be replaced with snow boots, popsicles with hot cocoa and swim goggles with ski goggles. Yes! I love mourning the end of summer because it means winter is around the corner. I can’t wait to swoosh down the slopes again. Best of all in nestled between summer and winter is fall. I feel so fortunate to live in an area that has four seasons.

Right now I’m in the process of updating my children’s photography website. Thank you for your patience during it’s reconstruction. I’ve spent my hiatus collecting new ideas, unique products and tons inspiration. I can’t wait to share them all with you!

Stepping Over To The Heart Gallery

September 1st, 2008
Hand drawn image of red heart in frame

Well, I didn’t exactly stop working during my hiatus. I did work with a handful of clients. I also did something really special. I photographed some children for the Connecticut Department of Children and Families Heart Gallery.

I am humbled and honored by my experience donating photographs to the gallery. The people that I met during my sessions are nothing less than amazing. Not only are the children looking for permanent homes cool, but the state employees that have devoted their lives to these kids are too. I feel so fortunate to be selected to be a Heart Gallery photographer. I’m looking forward to donating more time and photographs again.

Would you like to see the Heart Gallery in person? Take the kids down to the Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk, CT. The Gallery is on display there right now and runs until October 20, 2008. The gallery is located in the hallway that leads to the Toddler Terrain and runs parallel with Waterscape. Speaking of waterscape, be sure to check it out, I heard a rumor that it’s changing! Don’t worry, I’m told the new exhibit is just as much fun and it still will include water.
